I am a season behind in this Amazon Prime program, but “Catastrophe” is a biting comedy that I cannot get enough of. First aired in the UK, the show is about an Irish woman (Sharon Horgan), living in London who has a (very) brief romance with American businessman (Rob Delaney). Their encounter leads to an unplanned pregnancy and events ensue from there.

Horgan and Delaney both write and star in the series (their characters are also named Sharon and Rob) and the acting is better for it. From the minute the show starts the characters are fully-formed, with some of the best comedic timing in television today. The dialogue is witty, sarcastic, and a bit crude – but the pacing is so rewarding. The supporting cast of UK and American actors, including Carrie Fisher, round out a strong ensemble.

Halfway through season one and I’m definitely hooked on the dark comedic love story of Sharon and Rob. I can’t wait for what’s in store, and because its available for binge watching, I won’t have to wait that long. My only complaint is that the show suffers a bit from “Friends” syndrome: how in the world are these middle-class professionals affording some of the nicest flats in desirable East London?
