Get Out

“Get Out,” the new movie written and directed by Jordan Peele, of “Key & Peele” fame, is stylish, fun, scary and…a jolting commentary on race relations in America. A young woman takes her boyfriend home to meet her well-to-do white parents, without mentioning that he is black. When he expresses some reservations about that omission, she assures him that they are good liberals who will welcome him with open arms. Which they do, with some comical results, but then slightly unsettling things begin to happen. At an annual party the parents host, the reactions of the guests to the black boyfriend become really strange…and from there the movie edges into a true horror flick. Comedy? Horror movie? An inventive and arresting combination, with good performances by all.
