Everyone has a favorite hotel in Paris. We did, too, until we stayed at the very recently renovated Ritz Hotel. The location of the Ritz Hotel is wonderful, situated in the middle of the grand Place Vendôme. As you drive up to the front door, you know you are arriving at some place special. There are doormen and various other staff to welcome you warmly.

You enter the lobby space, are greeted with a very tasteful flower arrangement in pale pinks set inside a gold picture frame positioned on an armoire. The renovations look impeccable. The hotel room and public space decor softly and tastefully flatters the period architecture. The Hemingway Bar is still small, intimate and very much a buzz of activity and conversation. There is also a Proust room off the lobby where you can have afternoon tea, just read a book (even a Proust book if you prefer) or relax from a day of walking (or shopping). And somehow, magically, the chair cushions are always puffed up perfectly everywhere you sit, night and day!

The staff is well trained, polite and works hard at anticipating guest needs. Breakfast is generous, tasty and well presented. Allow enough time to enjoy it. We were upgraded two room categories and the rate included free pick-up at the railroad station or airport (we had “chunneled” in from London). A staff person met us at our designated railroad car, handled our luggage, took us to our chauffeured car and delivered us to the hotel. On departure we were driven to the airport and escorted through luggage check-in, all at no additional charge and with a graciousness. The hotel works hard at and truly succeeds in delivering an outstanding 5-star luxury experience. We wish you a Bon Voyage to Paris.
