Lincoln

REST-jumbo

We tried Lincoln when it first opened. We were taken by the architecture, but then found it a hassle getting reservations so we took it off our list.

A few nights ago, friends told us that they liked it so I made a 7:30pm reservation for last night, the Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend. As expected, the restaurant was empty.

Reading the menu reminded me of the first time I read the menu at 11 Madison Park. Too many words, too much explanation, and too fussy. Then came the waiter…too many words, too much explanation, and too fussy. Then came the food along with the waiter…too many words, too much explanation, and again, too fussy. He also had the unfortunate habit of putting his hands way too close to the food on our plates as he pointed to each and every item, which he felt compelled to explain.

One of our friends returned his salad as the reality differed from the explanation, and he didn’t like the reality. One of our friends returned her dessert as the reality differed from the explanation, and she didn’t like the reality.

Yes, the place is gorgeous. Yes, the dishes are beautifully prepared. Nope, we won’t be returning. WHAT A CONCEIT.
