Recovering oboist Blair Tindall’s 2005 tell-all look into the world of Drugs, Sex and Classical Music comes to the small screen via Amazon Studio’s streaming video service. The pilot episode is up now, and all 10 first-season episodes are due to be posted on December 23.

Lola Kirke plays the Blair Tindall role as Hailey, a oboist from North Carolina new to the Jungle (New York City). Saffron Burrows is the nymphomaniac cellist Cynthia. Hannah Dunne plays Lizzie, Hailey’s roommate and resident party animal.Screen Shot 2014-12-15 at 12.12.32 PM

As the series opens, Malcolm Macdowell as Thomas conducts his final concert with a New York City orchestra. Try to guess which one the producers intend to mock. The actual Joshua Bell is the soloist, bantering with the outgoing conductor as to who was trying to play faster. Bernadette Peters drops in as Gloria, chairman of the symphony board, who introduces the new maestro, Rodrigo. Played by Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, Rudolfo is misidentified by movie website IMDb as Gustavo. I wonder why.

“Mozart in the Jungle” promises to be not your grandmother’s view of the world of classical music.
