The Price

87634-11A lesser Arthur Miller play, and really unsatisfying. Even a talented cast (Mark Ruffalo, Danny DeVito, Jessica Hecht, Tony Shalhoub) couldn’t rescue it. Actually, we thought their performances were…strange. Blame it on the director? Danny DeVito played the comic role – a Yiddish-accented octogenarian — with the accent not real, and not always present. After a stultifying first act, when we normally would have departed, we thought, wait a minute, this is Arthur Miller! So we stayed—to our regret. I might add that the critics loved it, and it’s running at 100% grosses. So, who knew?
