West Bank Story (corrected)

Screen Shot 2014-07-17 at 9.56.31 PMIn its earlier posting several weeks ago, I accidentally posted the video for the trailer rather than for the entire 21-minute film. The full-length version from YouTube is now posted below. Take a look. It’s very funny.

With all the turmoil in the Middle East, perhaps we’ll be forgiven for alerting you to a short film that offers hope for Israeli-Palenstinian reconciliation by using music, dance and very broad humor. “West Bank Story” was made by students at USC Film School in partial fulfillment of their master’s degree. Directed and co-written by Ari Sandel, it won the 2006 Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.

Harking back to “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story,” this student film describes the romance between the relatives of the owners of rival West Bank falafel restaurants, one Israeli and the other Palestinian, respectively named the “Kosher King” and the “Hummus Hut.”

  1. Made my day! Perhaps this film should be our ‘diplomatic’ secret weapon for the Israeli/Palestine conflict? The message: Let the Small Business Merchants Write the Resolution: they understand true self-interest.
    Thanks, Ben.
